The Open Hands Thrift Store at 1836 Cerrillos Road, Santa Fe, has extended its hours. Effective April 1, the store will now be open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
"We are excited to be of greater service to our community by extending our hours," says Mike Marler, Open Hands Thrift Store director. "I am so delighted to be working for a nonprofit which allows me the opportunity to give back to the community, and lengthening our hours is going to help make us available to more people who want to do their shopping or bring us their quality donations.
Marler said he encourages customer e-mails at: OHthriftstore@yahoo.com.
The Open Hands Thrift Store opened its current location on January 2, 2009. Prior to that, it had been located at 851 W. San Mateo. Its purpose is to help support the programs of Open Hands, a local nonprofit assisting elderly and disabled members of our community since 1977. The store serves more than 1,400 individuals and families yearly. Thrift store staff is able to provide pick-up service for some larger donations.
The thrift store exists to support the programs of local nonprofit Open Hands, began as a hospice service with 26 clients and now serves more than 10,000 New Mexicans each year. Programs include an Adult Cay Service for daytime and awake-at-night senior care, a medical equipment loan bank, and a Home Safety Department that was recognized by the National Council on Aging as being one of the Top Ten in the country in 2007.
Open Hands' main facility and administrative offices are located at 2976 Rodeo Park Drive East in Santa Fe. For more information on Open Hands, visit www.openhands.org or call (505) 428-2320.
